Wow, whenever I read the story of a restaurant on the back of a menu, I never thought that I’d be telling the story of Joey’s
It starts 30 years ago when a 22 year old kid with the help of Mom and Dad decided to become the little store in the corner. With a lot of help from friends like Tony Zappia who taught me how to order tobacco to all the beer guys who taught me how to order.
Mom and Dad made sure that it’s the Mom & Pop Store where Mom and Dad worked (and more than one kid got a lecture from Mom). Pretty soon the infamous “Morning Coffee Crew” started forming and while members come and go but to this day the core group still gathers all these years later to catch up on and solve the affairs of the world.
When the faces become names and the names become friends and friends become family. You form the memories of a lifetime.
Joey’s is a business, a business that has grown over the years due to lots of support, recommendations and the wander in.
We never wanted to be the biggest, and that was the toughest thing when we built the new store. We didn’t want to lose the feel of the corner store and gain the feel of the chain store. We think we succeeded in growing but making everybody feel at home.
Things change, remember when the only beers were Schaefer, or Bud, Genny, cans or bottles. Now we’ve got crafts, micros, growlers and stuff that most of us aren’t sure that we are pronouncing correctly. And bottled water – Okay, seriously, 30 years ago who thought that we’d be drinking water out of bottles?
Things change, we’ve said until we meet again to Mom and Dad, but their spirit remains and their photos still makes people laugh and remember. Things endure, and the one that also endures friendship, thanks and the memories of a lifetime from the little guy on the corner who actually had Mom and Pops work.
For the younger folk, the store you come into is the second Joey’s, it started off across the street.
